2013 round up.

this year was really good.
like, really good.
it stands at the top of the "most important years of my young life so far" list.

here is a short list of some of the highlights of this year:

decided to be a bit more free and a bit more mad.
saw three films at sundance.
helped our friend amber with a styled shoot and got our pictures back from our shoot in dc. we have enough pictures to last us many years now, i think.
celebrated valentine's day one day early.
visited california for dance.
took lots of pictures of my sisters.
finally met some of adam's amazing friends (he's a secret keeper, that one).
loved spring so much that my heart nearly burst open but it didn't and for that we are all thankful.
had a colonoscopy. it was memorable.
turned the big ole twenty four.
spent many hours in dance competitions.
traveled to mexico with my new husband.
went to farmer's markets in the summer.
moved to salt lake. then to our new home.
started one of the last semesters of my undergrad. i love typing that sentence.
adjusted to newlywed life. and ikea furniture.
had a quarter life crisis. what am i saying "had"...
visited portland to see kelli and jared.
celebrated my love's birthday.
made a video for thanksgiving.
built a dresser that reminded me of other things.
celebrated having each other in our lives for five years.
traveled to dc to visit family!
made a fakey christmas card.

adam told me that 2014 is going to be "our year"
which is a difficult concept for me to grasp because 2013 felt so very good and so very "ours" already.

but he insists.
so, it will be our year
and i don't know what that means, but i believe him. or rather, i have some faith in the way his eyes light up when he says it.

i even like the way 2014 looks. it's got a certain appeal.

i cannot wait to see what will happen in that beautiful lookin' year!

p.s. that picture of my husband up there is awesome and also makes me laugh because 2 pairs of glasses? and he looks a little bit like richard ayoade with shorter hair.

twenty twelve in review.

for the record
i thought about not doing one of these
considering it's nearly 20 days into the new year...
but who cares, eh?
i have to.
you heard me.
i haaaaave to.

drumroll.....

things i gained and things that changed:

attempted to live a more minimalistic lifestyle.
had a real amateur and cutesy lookin' yet nonetheless satisfying valentine's day.
visited california for dance with my mama and sisters (and spotted this cute couple!)
got started on my unhealthy lana obsession.
cleaned adam's room and found some sweet treasures.
found and read my new favorite book (ahem... 6 times).
had pink hair. twice.
turned twenty-three!
sold in the bijou market.
watched the annular eclipse with my family.
watched my sister graduate high school.
cut my hair really short!
was a bridesmaid in a best friend's wedding.
sent my parents off on their europe trip.
went on a date and made a video about it.
discovered and became obsessed with rubysnap.
had a life revelation through a journal entry.
went on a "staycation" at the prettiest cabin.
went to the mumford&sons concert.
bragged about the amazing people in my life.
professed my love for walks.
played wedding decorator for my friends katie + josh.
visited nyc & dc. oh... and made a video about it for our four year anniversary!
and then i talked about change.
spent lots of time with my family.
oh... and...

i am absolutely amazed at my last year
and it's amazing to see how absolutely different things are
even now.
life is so funny
and it's so apparent when you take the time to reflect.

i can't wait for what 2013 will bring!

resolutions.

i've been thinking a lot about the new year.
firstly, 2013 sounds like some futuristic number and just those numbers alone are making me feel swallowed by the future.
secondly, i feel like i had the freshest start of them all this year
but not in the way that i would have wanted.

i can honestly say that i kept all my new year's resolutions from last year in my mind the whole year.

i went to three concerts.
i designed a piece of clothing,
created more art,
ran a race,
shot with film,
got gussied up...
and much more.

some i didn't even touch.
they were in my mind
but i changed so much that those goals fell away to make room for new ones along the way.
so much about me has changed.

just reading the posts from a year ago make me realize it.
suddenly, here i am.

my new year's resolution...
my one resolution
is to let go of certain boundaries.

let myself have a messy car.
stop beating myself up if i miss going to the gym sometimes.
share what information i want to share with who i want to share it with.
kiss when i want to.
travel when i want to.
spend money when i can.
just... be.

your life is kind of a story that people get to watch...
all the mistakes and all the good things you do.
so i want to make it a good one.

less is more

this is my current mission:
simplify.

giving away old items
getting rid of papers and files,
reducing the contents of my closet to the better quality pieces,
being able to say "no" to obligations that will clutter my to-do list,
organizing files on my computer,
clearing out my apps and emails,
simplifying my interactions with others,
ignoring all information that is not vital or important,
buying only necessities and simple pleasures,
going on a media diet,
disconnecting daily.

a life of minimalism
of balance
with more space to move and to breathe...
this is the most attractive thing in the world right now.

the thought of having one water bottle, a few pairs of shoes, one box of files, more alone time,
just more TIME...

wow.
hello, new lifestyle.

twentytwelve

i totally thought that calling it twentyeleven was going to catch on. it really didn't.

i was never a person who cared much about the supposed renewing qualities new year's day holds.
it was always just tomorrow. just tuesday or wednesday. just a day in january.
then i noticed things...
numbers changed,
folders were archived,
calendars entirely discarded,
dates and things belonging to the previous year would forever occur in that year and that year alone.

january twentytwelve means so many things to so many people.

it means the gym will once again be super crowded.
it means i will have to adjust and it's going to, once again, take me til march to remember to write 2012.
it means everything that happened in 2011, stays in 2011,
and now, the 2012 part of my life begins
and will forever occur in 2012.

so many things about the new year are so promising
if you look at it from a personal history standpoint.

january. what a beautiful word!
what a wonderful sound
with all that it entails.

i'm so ready to have a fresh new calendar,
a fresh new perspective.
to take resolutions seriously this year...

just all of it.

2012
i love you.

twentyeleven

and just like that,
it's the last post of this year!

so crazy.

things that i gained & things that changed:

threw a wish party.
had strange allergic reactions.
had a song stuck in my head for a month straight.
had a {hard} birthday.
participated in 30 strangers.
won a cool award.
went blonde!
welcomed one of my best little buddies into my world.
lost one of my other little buddies. :(
lived in summer.
said goodbye to a dear, fictional friend.
went on a family vacation.
sold in two markets!
thoroughly enjoyed autumn.
said "welcome home!" to one of the best humans out here.
shared a personal, freaky story.
zombied out in a video.
made our first official couples friendships.
realized how wonderful my life is.
had an entirely life-changing experience.
learned a little something about service.
went on lots of little dates.
had a magical christmas season.

this year brought plenty of inspiration for me,
as i realized i have to live a life of service,
a life of creativity,
and a life of love.
so...

you were good to me!
